Embracing online learning is an exciting new experience filled with innovation and change. While navigating technology can sometimes feel like deciphering a secret code, it’s all part of the fun.

We’ve compiled this handy guide to help you overcome common digital hiccups and ensure a seamless learning experience with the Impaq Online School.

Internet connection woes

One of the primary challenges online learners face is a shaky internet connection. To address this, consider the following:

  • Invest in a reliable internet service provider (ISP) with sufficient bandwidth for smooth video conferencing.
  • Position your router strategically for optimal coverage in your learning space.
  • Use a wired connection whenever possible to avoid signal interference – consider installing a fibre line.

TOP TIP: Make sure you’re always connected by having a backup power plan in case of load shedding.

Device dilemmas

The effectiveness of online learning depends on how well your device functions and glitchy gear can disrupt your learning journey. Here’s how to tackle them:

  • Check that your devices meet the minimum device requirements for the Impaq Online School.
  • Keep your devices updated with the latest software and security patches.
  • Regularly clear cache and cookies to ensure smooth performance.

Software snags

Online learning platforms and applications can sometimes act up. Don’t let software snags derail your studies:

  • Ensure your browser is up to date – we recommend using Google Chrome.
  • Trouble installing MS Office 365? Remember that you cannot install your MS Office 365 licence (as provided upon registration) if you have a previous version of this program installed on your device. You will need to delete the old version first.
  • If you log in to MS Teams and get the message “Join or Create Class”, it means that your class timetable has not yet been loaded. Please wait 24 hours or send an email to onlineschool@impaq.co.za if the problem persists.

Audio and/or video challenges

Effective communication is vital at the Impaq Online School, but audio or video problems can hinder communication. Here’s what you can do:

  • Ensure your device’s built-in camera cover is open and that you are not accidentally muted.
  • If you’re using external devices (such as a camera or a second monitor), try plugging it out and back in again.
  • Restart or update your drivers. If this doesn’t solve the problem, you can try logging in with a different device to determine if the issue is related to a specific device.
