Why I chose homeschooling as a single mother

Choosing homeschooling wasn’t just about education – it was about love, faith, and giving my child the best possible foundation for life.

A decision rooted in faith and love

As a single mother, every decision rests on my shoulders. There’s no one to share the responsibility with, no one to lean on when doubts creep in. But what I do have is fierce love for my child and a deep commitment to our values.

I wanted my child’s education to reflect the religious principles we live by – not just on weekends, but every day. With Impaq Homeschooling, we are able to weave faith into learning, creating a space where spiritual growth and academic development go hand in hand.

Overcoming the challenges of traditional schooling

Another reason I chose homeschooling was the reality of our local schooling options. While accessible, many of the nearby dual-medium schools have overcrowded classrooms. I’ve seen how easily a child can get lost in a sea of students, their unique needs overlooked.

I didn’t want that for my child. I wanted a learning environment where she could be seen, heard, and nurtured – where her individuality would be valued. Homeschooling offered exactly that.

The rewards of the journey

Homeschooling hasn’t always been easy. There have been days of exhaustion, doubt, and quiet questions about whether I was doing enough.

But then come the precious moments – watching my child grow in confidence, ask bold questions, and embrace learning with joy. These moments affirm that this path was meant for us.

This journey has been one of courage, faith, and unwavering love. It has taught me that sometimes, the most unconventional choices lead to the most beautiful outcomes.

A proud milestone

I am proud to say that Kia has been part of homeschooling since Grade 6. Today, she is completing her matric year, currently preparing for her prelim exams. Looking back, I can say without hesitation – I have no regrets about choosing homeschooling.
